The East Cleburne Community recently opened a new after-school program called Project CAN.
“We did a program called SCORE, and it was about 10-12 kids and mainly included TAKS test preparation,” said Executive Director Dexter Baldwin. “But this program will top out at 50 students.”

The office of U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Waco) has sent out an announcement that the congressman has secured funding for national defense projects at the Waco VA, L-3 Communications, and Baylor University under the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill, which passed the House Thursday.

Republicans and Democrats seem to wage war over every proposal to arise these days, but when it comes to those who pay the ultimate price, and in real war, there should be no arguing, no antics.
The GI Bill of Rights is one sterling example of a grateful nation’s attempt to help returning military personnel find a place in the country they’ve put their lives on the line for.
Another example could very well be a scholarship fund proposed by U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, that would improve educational opportunities for the children of those military personnel killed in action since 9/11 by expanding GI Bill of Rights benefits. The proposed scholarship honors — appropriately, we think — Marine Gunnery Sgt. John D. Fry, of Lorena.

Transportation, health care and economic development were the top issues that members of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce addressed with federal officials during their annual visit to Washington, D.C.
Twenty local government leaders and members of the chamber made the trip and met with Brazos County's representatives in Congress -- U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards and Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison -- and the staffs of legislators who are involved in key committees that affect the area.
